Value of Feeding RumaCell to New‐Born Holstein Heifer Calves From Birth Through 60 Days of Age
Two calf trials were conducted at a commercial Twin Falls, Idaho calf facility from
June 13 to August 25, 2017 to measure weight gain, body frame development and observable health differences.
Trial # 1
50 newborn Holstein calves were split Equally into two treatment groups;
the RumaCell group was fed 5 CC of RumaCell liquid per day in the milk and
the control group was fed milk without RumaCell.
Trial #2
78 newborn Holstein calves were split into two groups; 26 animals were fed 5 CC of RumaCell liquid per day
in the milk and the 52 in the control group were fed milk without RumaCell.
Summary:
This was a very well managed calf facility with good nutrional and health programs in place.
In both trials, RumaCell increased average daily gain resulting in significant improvements
in total gain of (5.6% and 5.2%) in trial one and two respectively over the control. Frame development was also improved (length and height).
